Joaquin Miller Parent/Teacher Association (JM PTA)

Joaquin Miller PTA Mission and Vision

The Joaquin Miller PTA envisions an inclusive school community that provides our children a high-quality education that will be a foundation for life-long learning.

The PTA supports this vision by providing resources, volunteering time, and helping to create an environment where all Joaquin Miller students thrive.

What is the PTA?

The Joaquin Miller PTA is a group of parent/guardians and staff members who provide resources, volunteer time, and contribute in many other ways to both provide a stimulating environment at our school and also build a community where all families belong.

Through fundraising and volunteering, we are able to provide our children with the following:

  • Physical Education: Joy and physical fitness are critical to our children and the extra support allows our classroom teachers extra time to work together and focus on what they are here to do

  • Arts Enrichment: Art is essential to a well-rounded education

  • Library: Our children need access to books and the guidance of a librarian.

  • Academic tutors: We utilize retired educators who have a deep passion for students who may need more support than their teacher’s instruction.

  • Field Trips for each classroom: These trips have  included the symphony, museums, and Tilden park.

  • Essential Classroom supplies: Our children and teachers need more than just the basics

  • Social Learning Support: Adult support for students who are having challenges with big feelings and self-regulation.

In addition to the provision of activities and programming via fundraising for our children, the Joaquin Miller PTA is a way for parents to be actively engaged in their children's education by taking part in school activities and staying informed about their child's school life. The PTA also helps parents build relationships with other Joaquin Miller families. Together, we are creating a community.

What does the PTA do?

There are three major components of PTA work:

Fundraising

Together, we raise about $850 per student to provide services, programs, and activities not covered by the school district. Major fundraisers include the Kids Come First Annual Fund, the Joaq-a-thon, the spring Benefit and Bash. We also have a ton of smaller events year-round. You can learn more at our Fundraising page.

Volunteering

We volunteer our time to support our children by chaperoning field trips, supporting instruction in the classroom, helping out in the library, working on campus beautification, and more. Volunteer opportunities are posted regularly on Konstella or by teachers and room parents.

Community Building

We build community with our events like Registration Expo, Trunk or Treat, pancake breakfasts, and our Spring dance. Our events are posted on Konstella and on our Calendar page.

Stay connected!

The Joaquin Miller PTA hosts five general meetings throughout the school year to share about our plans and activities, but also as a forum for parents/guardians to connect and voice their opinions about what is happening in their school. The PTA can also be contacted via email at joaquinmillerpta@gmail.com outside of the meeting schedule.
